Lost in my thoughts, in a whole other place
Lookin’ down on my walk, with a frown on my face
When before me a rattlesnake, stopped on his trail
Frozen, us both, he was shaking his tail
“I could kill you,” he said, “but today I feel nice,”
“Let me slither away, let this warning suffice”
And I stood as the snake made his way up the hill
All awareness was sharp from the thrill of the deal
No longer lost in my thoughts with a breath
Add a pep to my step, I had leapt to the crest
Thanks to the rattlesnake, I passed the test
With another day here, with a heart in my chest
Oh no
How could I have known?
So slow (so slow, so slow, so slow, so slow...)
The rattlesnake goes
I can hear him in my head to this day…
