Steve Perry: La Voz Dorada del Rock que Definió una Generación
Primeros Años
Stephen Ray Perry nació el 22 de enero de 1949 en Hanford, California. Hijo de padres portugueses, desde pequeño mostró un interés marcado por la música. Su madre le regaló una Shure 545, su primer micrófono, y esa herramienta marcó el inicio de una pasión que nunca se extinguiría. Durante su adolescencia, Steve pasó por varias bandas locales, cultivando y afinando su talento.
Journey: El Salto a la Fama
En 1977, Perry recibió una llamada que cambiaría su vida para siempre. Herbie Herbert, el mánager de Journey, había escuchado una demo de Perry y lo invitó a unirse a la banda. Ese fue el comienzo de una era dorada tanto para Perry como para Journey. Con su llegada, la banda dejó atrás sus raíces progresivas para adentrarse en un estilo más accesible y melódico.
Éxitos Imparables
El primer álbum de Journey con Perry, Infinity (1978), fue un éxito instantáneo. Canciones como “Lights” y “Wheel in the Sky” capturaron la atención del público y la crítica. Le siguieron álbumes icónicos como Evolution y Departure, que mantuvieron el impulso de la banda hacia la fama mundial.
El verdadero hito llegaría con Escape (1981). Este álbum contenía el megaéxito “Don’t Stop Believin’”, una canción que se ha convertido en uno de los himnos más perdurables del rock. El álbum incluye también otros éxitos como “Open Arms” y “Who’s Crying Now”. Con Escape, Journey alcanzó su máxima popularidad, llenando estadios y dominando las listas de ventas.
