Es de nacionalidad estadounidense con ascendencia mexicana y cheroqui. Nació el 13 de diciembre de 1963 en Toppenish, Washington, Estados Unidos. Es el hermano mayor de la famosa fallecida Reina del "Tex-Mex" Selena Quintanilla.
