'. ¿Quién es Placebo? Molko y Olsdal fueron a la escuela juntos en Luxemburgo. A los 17 años Molko marchó a Londres a estudiar arte dramático en el Goldsmith's College, mientras que Olsdal se iba a una escuela sueca. Ambos se encontraron un tiempo después en una estación de metro de Londres; Olsdal se había mudado con sus padres a Inglaterra y estaba estudiando guitarra en el Musicians Institute. Por aquel entonces Molko también estaba trabajando en sus propias ambiciones musicales, escribiendo canciones y haciendo algunas actuaciones con un batería llamado Steve Hewitt, que tocaba en el grupo Breed. Olsdal le presentó a Molko a otro batería sueco llamado Robert Schultzberg, que sería el batería oficial de Placebo, aunque el grupo grabó sus primeras maquetas con Hewitt en la batería. La música de Placebo estaría influida en un primer momento por gente como Sonic Youth, PJ Harvey o Tom Waits; en la época del dominio de Blur, Oasis y sus grupos satélite, el sonido de Placebo era, desde luego, completamente original y distinto de cualquier otro grupo contemporáneo suyo.
