El 10 de septiembre de 1945 en Lares, Puerto Rico, nació José Montserrate Feliciano García, conocido simplemente como José Feliciano, es un cantante de Boleros y Baladas, y un destacado intérprete de la guitarra española. A los diecisiete años José dejó la escuela, ya que su papá se encontraba sin trabajo y él quería aportar ayuda a su familia. José tocaba en cafés en Greenwich Village recibiendo como salario lo que en aquella época era costumbre pasar el sombrero. Toco en cafés, clubs desde Boston hasta Cleveland y Detroit, Chicago y Colorado. Un crítico musical del "New York Times" escribiendo sobre su participación en Gerde’s Folk City se refirió a José como “un mago de diez dedos que juguetea, corre, rueda, puntea y reverbera sus seis cuerdas de una manera incomparable ...
