Conformada por John Baldwin Gourley (voz y guitarra), Zach Carothers (bajo y coro), Kyle O'Quin (teclados), Noah Gersh y Kane Ritchotte en Wasilla, Alaska, Estados Unidos. Son reconocidos por la mezcla de sonidos de géneros como la electrónica y la psicodelía. Significado del nombre En un principio no sabían qué nombre colocarle a la agrupación. Su nombre hace referencia al país Portugal, puesto que son como un grupo de gente en sí, que demuestra riqueza y diversidad de sonidos. Finalmente les gustaría como sonaba y lo dejaron, mientras que "The Man" es un plus para que no se escuchara tan simple. Inicios de Portugal. The Man en la Música En sus comienzos tocaban sólo Gourley y Carothers mientras estudiaban la secundaria.
