[Chorus]
Black lives, turned into flatlines;
History repeating once again
White crimes, under these street lights;
How many souls must fade before it ends?
[Verse 1]
I know a hashtag will never bring a dad back;
Another soul getting stashed in a black bag
But it helps to spread the truth that the force;
That is sworn to protect, own laws they neglect
Black prejudice eclipsing black excellence;
Are we progressive with a racist for a president?
It’s a fucked up system in which we’re living in;
Vilifying minorities, trans, gays, and immigrants
A white male stopped I wonder what the difference is?
A black suspect's guilty till proven innocent
Rest in peace to Breonna, rest in peace to Treyvon Martin;
Merely seen as targets crossed off by the police department
Tearing down the statues of slavers, that aren’t worthy of celebration;
If you’re against it then you’re a racist
We need to educate and try to relate;
The only way to drive a positive change
[Chorus]
Black lives, turned into flatlines;
History repeating once again
White crimes, under these street lights;
How many souls must fade before it ends?
[Verse 2]
Talk race and white people getting uncomfortable;
Won’t acknowledge the privilege we’re accustomed to
Implicit bias is inherently prevalent;
Yeah, the prejudice evident in these western developments
All lives matter, yeah we know that’s a fact;
But at the moment yeah the focus on the ones who are black
We need to instigate these changes through meaningful conversations;
To wash the indoctrination that we've had from the past
[Chorus]
Black lives, turned into flatlines;
History repeating once again
White crimes, under these street lights;
How many souls must fade before it ends?
