El grupo de rock Cinderella fue creado en 1983 en Filadelfia, Pennsylvannia, por el guitarrista y compositor Tom Keifer y el bajista Eric Brittingham, ambos contactaron al guitarrista Jeff LaBar. Luego colocaron como miembros de la banda a otro guitarrista, Michael Kelly Smith, y al baterista Tony Destra, pero estos abandonaron a la agrupación en 1985 para formar otra banda de nombre Britny Fox. Entonces, Cinderella adicionó al baterista Jody Cortez y continuó con cuatro integrantes tocando su propio material musical, ellos se presentaron en clubs y bares de Pennsylvannia y Nueva Jersey. Fue entonces que en 1985, Bon Jovi los vio en uno de esos shows. Se impresionó lo suficiente para entusiasmar al sello disquero Mercury que procedió a firmarlos.
