And she decided to inform him that they are staying, they are staying here in this pretty city on the water.

She is feeling that her life has just begun here. The present reveals in all her dreams herself in her day-to-day struggles. The sun feels warm on her face, her back, and the light is kind to her eyes.

They have made friends already, friends with other young colored folks who have decided to make it a goal being here in San Francisco. The city feels like a place where miracles of divine intervention.

She is whisp– whispers her prayers, prayers she has not prepared to say aloud. This is God's country, where the very air is full of prayers. She feels as though everything she has ever dared hope for lays at her feet.
