'. ¿Quién es Ensiferum? Allá por el 1995 Markus Toivonen (Guitarra) tocaba con unos amigos en una banda llamada «Black Reflections» y se dedicaban a tocar canciones de grupos de thrash como Megadeth, Pantera y otros. Markus se dio cuenta de que esa banda no le ofrecía mucha libertad para tocar la música que él quería, algo diferente. A él le encantaba el folk, y se sentía tremendamente atraído por bandas de Death Metal Melódico como Amorphis o Dark Tranquility, y un buen día decidió hablar con su amigo Kimmo Miettinen (Batería del grupo) y le propuso de tocar un folk-heroic-death-melodic Metal (más tarde llamado solo Viking Metal), y este aceptó. también recogieron por el camino a otro de sus amigos, Sauli Savolainen (Bajo), y con el ya tenían el grupo, pero no el nombre, problema que Markus solucionó con la ayuda de un diccionario.
