'. ¿Quién es System of A Down? Participantes de la escena underground de Los Angeles, Daron Malakian (guitarras) y Serj Tankian (voces) se encontraron durante 1993 en unas salas de ensayo, cuando aún militaban en diferentes agrupaciones. Pronto la energía en común que ambos prodigaban fue una señal que se podía hacer algo en conjunto, marcando el nacimiento de una banda llamada Soil, en la que luego se integraría Shavo Odadjian (bajo) y John Dolmayan en batería. Ocho o nueve canciones más tarde, Soil ya se había conseguido un par de shows para mostrar lo que eran las raíces sembradas en este proyecto llamado System Of a Down, y para 1995 había un nuevo capítulo en la historia de estos prometedores músicos que habían probado tener una rigurosa ética de trabajo y un sonido duro y pesado que sonaba absolutamente contemporáneo. El nombre System Of A Down llegó inspirado por una poesía de Daron, el guitarrista, que se llamaba Victims Of A Down.
