'. ¿Quién es R.E.M.? Influyente formación americana. Héroes de la música alternativa estadounidense, puntales básicos de la independencia sonora expandida en emisiones universitarias, lograron transferir con éxito su excelencia compositiva a niveles mainstream, sin perder el sentido libertario de un proceder derivado de las formas cardinales del pop y el rock. Su ascendencia proviene esencialmente de su querencia, desde una vitriólica y atmosférica perspectiva lírica e instrumental, por las grafías musicales tradicionales de los años sesenta. Jangle-pop, rock, garage-rock, psicodelia, country-rock o folk-rock, con una especial significación por el legado de los Byrds, en la fijación obsesiva de Peter Buck por la guitarra Rickenbacker de Roger McGuinn, la expansión sonora de bandas como la Velvet Underground o Television, el ímpetu del garaje 60's o el proto-punk de Iggy Pop y los Stooges, junto al esmerado tacto melódico de grupos como The Beatles o The Beach Boys, cuyas aptitudes vocales han ejercido una perenne atracción en la banda.
