Supertramp es una de las bandas más icónicas del rock progresivo y pop, conocida por su sonido característico que combina el rock con toques de jazz y elementos progresivos. Fundada en 1969 en Londres, la banda fue el resultado de la visión y el sueño del músico Rick Davies. Davies, después de la ruptura de su anterior grupo, The Joint, decidió formar una nueva banda que llevaría a cabo sus ambiciones musicales.
Así, en 1969, Rick Davies, junto con Roger Hodgson, Richard Palmer y Robert Millar, formaron lo que inicialmente se llamó "Daddy". Poco después, cambiaron el nombre a Supertramp, inspirado por el libro The Autobiography of a Super-Tramp de W.H. Davies. La banda se encontraba en una búsqueda continua de su identidad musical, y sus primeros años estuvieron marcados por experimentación y cambios en la formación.
En 1974, Supertramp lanzó su tercer álbum de estudio, Crime of the Century, que se convirtió en su primer gran éxito. El álbum incluyó éxitos como "Dreamer" y "School", que catapultaron a la banda a la fama. La producción pulida, combinada con las letras introspectivas y las complejas estructuras musicales, hicieron de Crime of the Century un referente del rock progresivo.
Rick Davies y Roger Hodgson, los compositores principales de la banda, desarrollaron una dinámica creativa única. Davies aportaba un estilo maduro y bluesero, mientras que Hodgson ofrecía un tono más melódico y espiritual.
