Nació en Chicago, Illinois, Estados Unidos, el 17 de septiembre de 1968. En el año 2000, entró a la escena musical como solista. Entonces lanzó su primer álbum, "Not That Kind", respaldado por Sony Music. El disco consiguió éxito mundial, en especial por el tema "I'm Outta Love". La Reina Del Sprock, como le gusta ser llamada, lleva más de tres décadas en la escena musical. Durante todos esos años, ha conquistado a millones de aficionados.
