Nació en Chicago, Illinois, Estados Unidos, el 17 de septiembre de 1968. En el año 2000, entró a la escena musical como solista. Entonces lanzó su primer álbum, "Not That Kind", respaldado por Sony Music. El disco consiguió éxito mundial, en especial por el tema "I'm Outta Love".
